SEE VIDEO BELOW: Official Music Video of P-Square
I can guarantee that the theatre has never hosted an event like this before! Composed of identical twin brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye, P-Square has been nominated for and won numerous international awards for their videos, albums, songs, and performances. Most notably, P-Square has earned 14 different MTV Africa Music Awards, Nigerian Music Awards, Channel O Music Video Awards and The Headies. Gaining inspiration from their music idols, Michael Jackson, MC Hammer and Bobby Brown, the twins developed skills on the keyboard, drums, bass and rhythm guitar and combined their artistic talent with precise dance routines that have made P-Square a household name around the world.
To see the extent of Michael Jackson’s influence on P-Square, check out their video to “Personally” and you’ll see why it received such positive reviews from fans mesmerized by its catchy beats and lyrical rhyme schemes. This video has received more than 46 million views since uploaded just over two years ago, and I’m sure it’s inspired its own generation of dancers as implied by its Most Gifted Dance nomination at the 2014 Channel O Music Video Awards. While performing this song, P-Square was also nominated for “Best International Performance” at the 2013 Soul Train Music Awards and nominated for Song of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards with “Personally.”
Perhaps my favorite video, the one that gets me the most excited about seeing P-Square come to The Hanover Theatre, is Shekini. If you’re a fan of world music and fabulous dance beats, then this is one show you’re going to want to catch! Tickets for this tremendously popular group start at $80 and go on sale Tuesday, June 30 at 10am. For more information on other shows coming to one of Pollstar’s top 50 theatres in the world (right here in Worcester) visit their website, like them on Facebook and tune into Behind the Scenes with The Hanover Theatre Saturdays on WCRN AM830 from 1-2pm.
