Family Matters: Family Biking & More

Friday, April 29, 2011

Spring is really here, wtih buds bursting out everywhere. Are the kidos as well? Here are three great ways to keep them busy and happy.

Kido Tip 1. Bike Safety and Tune Up

Plan to tune up the bikes this weekend. Check that your children's bike still fits or merely needs the training wheels off or seat adjusted. Make sure their helmet still fits properly. Check that reflectors, horns, and water

bottle holders are securely attached. If the bike needs major repairs or it is time to trade in the booker, visit Recycle a Bike on Sims Avenue in Providence. Review bicycle safety with kids.

Kido Tip 2. Buy Indie Day

We love shopping local and supproting our independent book stores. May 1st has been declared Buy Indie Day. The idea: buy one book—paperback, hardcover, or audiobook, at an independent bookstore near you and together we help can keep these places in business.

Support local bookstores:

  • Ada Books, Providence
  • Books on the Square, Providence
  • Symposium Books, Providence
  • Barrington Books, Barrington
  • Island Books, Middletown, RI
  • Other Tiger, Westerly

Kido Tip 3. The Big Draw

Plan to draw this Saturday, April 30th at the RISD Museum’s Big Draw event,  part of an internationally acclaimed campaign that celebrates drawing in its many forms through hands-on drawing for all. Bring your imagination and come make your mark! This Free Community Day has tons of awesome drawing activities planned for kids of all ages inside and outside the museum. RISD Museum of Art, 224 Benefit Street, Providence, 11am – 4pm, ALL AGES. FREE
