Thursday, July 16, 2015

The premier of Black Beauty, a 28-minute film created by Worcester high school students will premiere at Clark University on Friday night.

Black Beauty is the story of a group of high school students who set out to uncover how and why the world values lighter complexions over darker skin tones. The story explores the power of the media, and how family and friends shape young people's destinies.

The film was conceived of, written and produced by high school students in celebration of Black Beauty.

The premiere is hosted by N-CITE Community Media and is being suppoted by the Worcester Arts Council, for the Local Cultural Council – an agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

N-CITE is a media organization from Worcester that employs the media arts to develop, produce and showcase counter-stories to distrupt the dominant narrative. The organization works with youth and community members to present new stories that challenge existing ideologies and look at new possiblities.

When: Friday July 17th 2015 7pm-8:30pm
Where: 218 Jefferson,  Clark University, 950 Main Street in Worcester, MA.
