Getting Out: Franklin County Cider Days

Thursday, October 31, 2013

Here in Southern New England it is peak apple cider season. The first frost has fallen and apple orchards are using all the freshest apples to mill out delicious apple cider. Not to worry, Franklin County has got you covered with a festival that celebrates all things apple.

Cider Days, a Franklin County tradition, commemorates the apple with two full days of celebration. The event is being held this year on November 2-3.

The main hub of the event will be at the Shelburne Buckland Community Center, but apple orchards and satellite festival areas throughout the region will offer several events for festival attendees.

The festival truly has something for everyone. Apple lovers will get a chance to taste several varieties of cider including hard cider, sweet cider, and more. More than ten local orchards and cider mills, located all over Franklin County, will be in attendance.

If cider doesn’t quite do it for you, make sure to check out all of the other products produced by the orchards. Jams, wines, pies and honey—just to name a few— will be available for tasting and purchase.

Some highlights of the festival include the Cider Salon (a cider tasting featuring ciders from across North America), the Cider Days Locavore Harvest Supper, the Apple Pancake Breakfast and more!

Check out the slides below to browse events at orchards that are participating in Cider Days, as well as some close to home Central MA favorites.
