Worcester County has plenty to offer if you want to get out and have a good laugh. Plenty of restaurants and clubs in the area offer terrific comedy shows and other hilarious events at very fair prices, and they are often accompanied by great food and drinks. Relieve your stress and unwind for at one of these great venues.
Dick Doherty's Beantown Comedy Escape at Park Grill & Spirits
257 Park Avenue, Worcester
This Friday and Saturday in the comedy room at Park Grill & Spirits hear the humorous musings of local stand-up comedian, radio and television host Stephen Donovan, with Dennis Fogg and a few other special guests. The show on Friday starts at 9 pm and at 8 pm on Saturday. Drinks and appetizers are available in the show room and guests are welcome to gorge on a full dinner in the restaurant before the show begins. Dick's, with locations in Boston and Methuen in addition to Worcester, hosts the best local comedy every weekend. The show costs $20 and reservations are encouraged.
Frank's Comedy Safari at Viva Bene
144 Commercial Street, Worcester
Frank Foley's Comedy Safari, now housed by the delectable Viva Bene Italian Ristorante, hosts the best stand-up comedians from Boston, New York and all over the New England area every Saturday night. This weekend laugh out loud with comic Shea Spillane. The show begins at 8 pm. Enjoy a scrumptious Italian dinner before the show begins as part of a special dinner/show package. The show costs $20 and reservations are encouraged.
StageTime Comedy Club at Jose Murphy's
97 Water Street, Worcester
Every Saturday night at Jose Murphy's you can see some of the funniest area comedians thanks to the StageTime Comedy Club. This Saturday one can enjoy the comic styling of Sean Wilkinson, a regular on rooftopcomedy.com. The show begins at 8 pm. The show is hosted by Nick Chambers and will feature Shawn Carter, James Creelman and R.A. Bartlett in addition to the lead act. Reservations through tix.com are encouraged and tickets are only $5, offering the best deal in the area. As always, enjoy great food and drinks at the bar.
Mr. Smartass Theatre at the Lucky Dog Music Hall
89 Green Street, Worcester
The Lucky Dog Music Hall often hosts its very own homage to Mystery Science Theatre 3000. Three of Worcester's own hilarious and sarcastic smart-alecs offer their thoughts on the cheesiest films being shown on the Lucky Dog's big screen. The film is given a new soundtrack "laced with puns, dirty jokes, sound effects, pop culture references, and even a few facts thrown in for good measure." Recent examples of films shown include Hercules II, Mighty Joe Young, and Mystics in Bali. Every show starts at 9:30 pm and is free to get in.
Karaoke
Amateur Karaoke is of course a sure fire way to get your friends hunched over in joy at your expense. There are many, many places in Central Mass you should check out that welcome your not-so-terrific singing skills. These include The Mill Restaurant & Lounge in West Boylston, Classic's Pub in Leominster, and Ralph's Rock Diner, Cafe Neo and countless other places in the city.
