GIMP Dance Project Appearing Tonight at Roger Williams University

“Saturday’s GIMP performance will be unlike any dance project hosted by Roger Williams University to date,” said RWU Associate Professor of Dance Gary Shore. “Director Heidi Latsky has created a very special program that is reshaping dialogue around the disability arts to develop an appreciation for the beauty in every body, no matter the physical limitations. This a wonderful learning opportunity for our students and a community-building event for Rhode Islanders.”
No-limits dance
GIMP features trained dancers and performers, some with physical disabilities, who explore body image and physical disability in relation to the nature of dance and performance. GIMP's week-long residency at RWU has been to create an environment for dialogue and exposure to the disability arts through film and integrated dance. Through participation in rehearsals, performances, outreach activities and forums, Roger Williams University students and faculty have had hands-on experience with the artists and their process.
In addition to the GIMP roster, the public performance will also include dancers from RWU and the greater Rhode Island community.
The GIMP public performance will take place in RWU’s Performing Arts Center located on the University’s Bristol Campus at One Old Ferry Road. No ticket is required for this event but seating is limited. Doors open at 7pm.
