Great Gifts for Dog Lovers

Thursday, December 02, 2010

While Christmas carols boast about tons of toys for all the girls and boys, there’s one very special four-legged family member that we won’t want to forget: your pooch, and Rhode Island has no shortage of fabulous bark-eries and bow-tiques filled with great holiday gifts.

Tasty Treats

“There’s nothing like food for dogs,” laughed Susan Dziubaniuk, owner of the Pawstry Gourmutt in Johnston. The shop offers dog-friendly biscotti, jumbo donuts, and soft and hard cookies, among treats, even Santa Paw sugarless bones. Lynne Wieder, owner of Wag Nation in Newport, also has a wide range of treats, including build-you-own bags to fill with treats labeled “naughty” or “nice.” Cranston-based Jack's Snacks bakes all of its

homemade preservative-free treats on site, says owner Marni MacLean Karro, including a host of holiday-themed delights shaped like snowflakes and gingerbread men.

Well-Heeled

Dziubaniuk says reversible fleece jackets for dog by a East Providence company, Puppies Elite, are selling well this season, many supporting NFL teams, as are dog scarves. At Wag Nation, reversible plaid puffer jackets by My Mascot are all the rage, keeping dogs as warm as they are adorable. Santa and reindeer rope toys by HuggleHounds are durable and make for great stocking stuffers. Jack’s Snacks is busy signing lucky dogs up for three and six-month subscriptions to their Biscuit of the Month Club, where dogs receive two bags of treats monthly.
