John Loughlin Receives High Military Honor from Dept of Defense

Thursday, November 24, 2011

Honor: Command Sergeant Major George R. Manning, Lieutenant Colonel John J. Loughlin II, Lieutenant General Robert Caslen, Commander, NATO Training Mission - Iraq, Chief Office of Security Cooperation - Iraq

Lieutenant Colonel John J. Loughlin II has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the third-highest award bestowed upon members of the United States military, by the US Department of Defense.

Loughlin, who is currently serving overseas, received his award in ceremonies in Baghdad. "Serving as part of the 'real 1%,' those who have answered America's call to arms, has been one of the greatest honors of my life," Loughlin told GoLocal.

"I am extremely proud of America's sons and daughters who each day work to preserve freedom as we wind down Operation New Dawn here in Iraq," he said. "We as a nation are truly blessed, and I am especially thankful on this Thanksgiving Day for their outstanding service."

The Defense Meritorious Service Medal is awarded in the name of the Secretary of Defense to members of the Armed Forces who, while serving in a joint activity, distinguish themselves by outstanding achievement or meritorious service.
