Lori Cain
The 6th annual Miss Pink pageant will return to Danversport Yatch Club on March 14th where reigning Miss Pink - Lori Cain of Leominster, MA - will pass the crown to another deserving cancer survivor.
“I was diagnosed July 13, 2011 from that moment on I had nothing but positive things happen to me - I went through chemo with a smile,” says Cain. “ I was contacted by Ashley Shultz in fall of 2012 and I did a lot of fundraising for Avon Walk, and in 2013 I went [into the pageant] they pamper survivors - we have mimosas and they do our hair and make us look fabulous! It’s the most fantastic, emotional, and inspirational evening - we walk the runway and tell our story.”
Miss Pink
The 501(c) 3 non-profit organization started in 2010 as the creation of Ashley and Nick Schultz.
The Schultz's focus was on helping cancer survivors feel beautiful again, and now it has grown into an event that showcases the strength and courage of each contestant.
“Each woman who competes is a survivor or going through breast cancer. Their services are donated, dresses donated, nails and hair and makeup are done free - when they compete to be Miss Pink, it’s not a competition - its someone who is a spokesperson who says ‘I’m a survivor, I’ve been through it, and I’m not hiding anymore,’” says Heather Erickson, Public Relations Manager at Miss Pink. “All money raised goes to support those with breast cancer, just $100 gives women in treatment meals for 3 months.”
