Massachusetts Ranked 27th for Most Patriotic

Thursday, July 03, 2014

Massachusetts is the 27th most patriotic state in the U.S., according to new rankings released by Business2Community.com.

It's a surprisingly mediocre ranking for the state where some of the United States' greatest Revolutionary moments took place.  Massachusetts ranked especially low in veteran residents per capita and "liking" America on Facebook.

How States Were Ranked

States were ranked on 6 different factors, and those 6 categories were plugged into a formula to rank all 50 states overall.  The 6 factors used were:

  • National Historic Landmarks per Capita
  • Veterans per Capita
  • Money Spent to Fund Veterans
  • Percent of Residents That Voted in the Last Presidential Election
  • People Who Google For American Flags
  • People Who List America as an Interest on Facebook

Maine Ranks #2

Maine was the highest ranked New England state in the rankings, coming in at 2nd overall nationally in patriotism.

“As far as states that know how to celebrate their past and their future, Maine’s got it handled. With the fourth most historic national landmarks per capita and the highest voter percentage in our top 10, it’s pretty apparent why the Pine Tree State ranked No. 2 overall,” the article reads. “This state is also home to a fair amount of veterans, with about one in 10 locals having served. It’s hard to deny that this state knows how to work for the betterment of our country.”
