Moms Can-Do’s: Adventureland + More

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

How do you make bumper cars even more fun? Put them in water, of course! Check these babies out at Narragansett's Adventureland.

Introducing Moms Can-Do's, a GoLocal weekly feature sponsored by Southwick's Zoo, for moms of little ones--from toddlers to elementary schoolers. Looking for fun things to do during the week? Creative spots for last-minute outings? Fun events especially for little ones? We'll bring you our 5 favorites in the region every Tuesday, and they're all within an hour's drive of home.

Check out this week's mid-summer fun.

Your little explorer will be kept plenty busy at this Narragansett treasure. Adventureland features batting cages, go-karts, and bumper boats (who knew bumper cars could be made even more fun?). And when you're ready to take a breather, check out the 28-foot carousel, 18-hole nautical-themed mini-golf course, and the awesome Burdick's Ice Cream Stand. Click here or call 401-789-0030 for more info. 112 Point Judith Road, Narragansett, RI.

Paper House!

This wonder is an actual house made entirely from newspaper! Built by Mr. Elis F. Stenman, a mechanical engineer who designed machines that made paper clips, the mastermind began building the house in 1922 as a summer house. The house boasts whole pieces of paper furniture and even a piano covered in newspaper. Click here to find out more about this must-see curiosity. 52 Pigeon Hill St, Rockport, MA.

Plimoth Plantation!

A trip to the Plimoth Plantation is a classic must for any growing New Englander! Revel in the nostalgia of your first field trip to the living museum while your child is transported back into the 17th century to witness the pilgrim's settlement of the Plymouth Colony. Learn about their struggles, their discoveries, and interactions with the area's native people. 137 Warren Ave., Plymouth, MA.

RI Land Trust Days!

Rhode Island Land Trust Days start this Thursday, August 1st and will feature more than 60 guided walks and events through RI's 47 beautiful land trusts. Governor Chafee and Mayor Taveras will host a kickoff event at the Southside Community Land Trust. If you're up for a challenge, attend at least 4 Land Trust Day activities to be entered into a competition with the grand prize for the person who attends the most activities! Click here for a roster of activities and more info.

Water Wizz!

This awesome waterpark offers 10 fun slides, pools, and kiddie attractions for the whole family. Kids under 7 will love Little Neck Beach, which brings tons of fun in only 18 inches of water. Take a leisurely ride on Herring Run River, or let your little one make some new friends at Captain Kid's Island. Even the big kids will love this park with thrilling high-speed slides and plunges. 3031 Cranberry Highway, East Wareham, MA.
