Tis the season...literally! The ice rinks are opening up, so lace on some skates and have some fun this week. Photo: Mass Office of Travel and Tourism/flickr

Happy Thanksgiving, southern New England moms! Hope everyone’s ready for Turkey Day—and Black Friday, of course. We’ve got this week’s line up of kid-friendly outings that you and the little ones will be sure to enjoy. Stay tuned weekly—we'll bring you our 5 favorites in the region every Tuesday all within an hour's drive of home. Checkout this week's fun!

Skate!

The day before Thanksgiving, take the kiddos to the Providence Rink for opening day! Weather permitting, the rink will be open November 27 from 4-10pm. Grab some ice skates, a winter jacket, hat, and gloves because it’s going to get chilly on that ice! If your kids are still a little clumsy on their feet, wait until Saturday for the “Learn to Skate” open house, a free intro session for the rink’s skating lessons! 2 Kennedy Plaza, Providence, RI. (401) 331-5544.

Celebrate!

Celebrate the heritage of New England this week at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard! With Thanksgiving only days away, a trip to the museum will provide a fun outing for you and the kids. Be sure to check out the Native American Collection, which pays tribute to the people that first called New England home. This exhibit was developed with the help of the Nipmuck and Wampanoag tribal communities in Massachusetts, and provides an accurate and hands on depiction of how the native people lived their lives. A kid favorite is the traditional Native American longhouse, which is just itching to be explored! 102 Prospect Hill Road, Harvard, MA. (978) 456-3924. Click here for more information.

Excite!

Halloween is behind us, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end! The kiddos will have a blast exploring all the creepy and cool characters of Big Nazo at the lab. This week, why not plan a trip to Providence to peruse the window displays and check out all the creatures? After that, head over to the Providence Place Mall and have the little ones help you pick out holiday gifts for family members! Corner of Eddy and Fulton Streets, Providence, RI.

Learn!

This week, take a trip to the Ecotarium in Worcester to check out their new exhibit, Science+You! This kid-sized science laboratory with real science equipment has everything your little ones will need for a day of learning and fun. Kids will be invited to hop into a lab coat and head into the lab to learn how science helps keeps their bodies healthy and strong. Fun activities will include playing with magnetic balls to resemble antibodies, cooking healthy foods, piecing together puzzles, and more! 222 Harrington Way, Worcester, MA. (508) 929-2701. Click here for more.

Explore!

Worcester has an exciting past that can only be understood in one way: experiencing it! Take the kids on a tour of Salisbury Mansion, Worcester’s only historic house museum! This mansion was built in 1772 as a store and home for a wealthy bachelor from Boston; Stephen Salisbury. Despite all the changes to Worcester, the mansion survived intact. Kids will have a blast taking a trip back in time, checking out all the cool pictures of Worcester from way back when. 40 Highland Street, Worcester, MA. (508) 753-8278.
