Nativity School President Zequeira Stepping Down
Wednesday, February 10, 2016
“Over the past five years, I believe that we have accomplished a tremendous amount at Nativity Worcester and the school is in a very strong position. We will soon successfully complete a three-year $10.5 million major fundraising campaign that is crucial to our future sustainability, and raised awareness of the challenges facing boys and young men in education and in our community. I’m very grateful for the opportunity I’ve had since returning to Nativity Worcester," said Zequeira.
Zequeira has served as President of the schools since July of 2011 and is also the school's founding principal from 2003-04. Zequeira will stay on until June 30 and begin his new role on July 1.
“It is with the singular emotion of gratitude that we announce that our President, Alex Zequeira, will become the new Headmaster at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury on July 1, 2016. Alex has embraced the Worcester community as his own. His experience, wise counsel and generous nature have been sought by many to help tackle some of our community’s most difficult issues concerning the poor and urban education. At Nativity Worcester, we thank Alex for his outstanding service and we wish him every success at St. John’s. St. John’s and the principles of Xavarian education has been a natural next step for the majority of our Nativity Worcester graduates. Under the leadership of Michael Welch there was never any hesitation within the St. John’s community to be both generous and welcoming toward our graduating students. The completion of a quality St. John’s education has led to the admittance of many of our graduates into some of the finest colleges and universities in the country," said J. Christopher Collins, Chair of the Nativity Worcester Board of Trustees.
The Board of Trustees at Nativity Worcester will meet later this week to determine next steps in the search for a new President.
