NE Tech Seeks Computer-Savvy Teens for Competition

The goal of the competition it to attract hundreds of talented young people around Rhode Island who may have aspirations of engaging in college or military programs where they can continue to develop their computer knowledge and skills and explore cyber security as a career.

New England Institute of Technology, the Rhode Island Department of Education, RI Science & Technology Advisory Council, and Tech Collective are partners in this initiative. The Rhode Island Cyber Foundations Competition will be run by the Center for Internet Security, a national non-profit organization responsible for identifying and developing potential talent for the cyber security workforce of the future.
Students interested in computer courses or computer gaming are likely participants as well as individuals that like to dismantle objects to see how they work. Student registration is now open until February 18, 2011. Once registered, online tutorial programs will be available to students for an approximate two week period prior to each of the three competitions which are scheduled as follows: March 4, 2011-Networking; March 18, 2011-Operating Systems; April 8, 2011-System Administration.
