NetWorks to Showcase RI Artists

Monday, September 20, 2010

Organizers behind NetWorks, an ongoing venture showcasing and recording the work, methods, achievements and profiles of Rhode Island artists, will unveil multiple new components to their repertoire this fall and winter.

NetWorks 2009-2010 features a salon discussion with featured artists and collector/producer Joseph A. Chazan, M.D. on Friday, October 15th at the Providence Athenaeum; the premiere of twelve new video portraits of NetWorks artists by Richard Goulis on Sunday, October 17th at the Chace Center, Rhode Island School of Design (including artists Bob Dilworth, right, and Coral Bourgeois, below); an exhibit at the Newport Art Museum featuring Curator Nancy Whipple Grinnell’s selection of artwork by artists representing NetWorks 2009-2010 running November 6, 2010 through January 17, 2011; and an exhibition at Gallery Z in Providence running January 12 through February 26, 2011 featuring original work by NetWorks artists.

NetWorks is also releasing a new catalogue and poster this fall by renowned designer and educator Malcolm Grear, one of the artists featured in NetWorks 2010. Biographies of each participating artist will be available at www.AS220.org and at www.NewportArtMuseum.org later this month.

NetWorks Roots

The NetWorks project was originally developed in 2008 Chazan and Umberto Crenca, Artistic Director of Providence’s AS220. Over time, the enterprise aims to create an archive of the Rhode Island artistic community through video profiles, photographic portraits, exhibitions, panel and gallery discussions and more.

NetWorks consistently features a different group of Rhode Island artists annually and has documented forty-two artists, their methods, inspirations and artworks to date.

Contact AS220 for more information at (401) 831-9327 or follow NetWorks Rhode Island on Facebook.
