NEW: Hasbro Dominates Nominees for National Toy Hall of Fame
Tuesday, September 13, 2011
The Hall of Fame recognizes toys that have inspired play and creativity over a sustained period, and all six of Hasbro's nominees this year all sound like Hall of Famers. How can you argue with the cube that continues to mesmerize and confound its users, plus the weirdest and greatest party game of all time? Add to those entrants, the rest of the Hasbro nominees this year: Transformers, Star Wars action figures, Jenga, and the Simon electronic flash game.
The rest of the pack
Hasbro's all-star lineup will compete with contenders including the dollhouse, Mattel's Hot Wheels, Dungeons & Dragons, the pogo stick, and radio-controlled vehicles. Two of the 12 nominees will be chosen in November for the historic honor.
Those winners will join a cadre of toys and games already in the Hall of Fame that resonate with every American: Crayola crayons and Silly Putty, not to mention Hasbro's own Easy-Bake Oven and Mr. Potato Head.
The path to Hall of Fame
Anyone can nominate a toy to the National Hall of Fame, but the organization narrows that list to a hopeful dozen. Now, a team of historians, educators, and other creative types tapped by the National Toy Hall of Fame will weigh in and name the winners. With six horses in the race, what are the odds for Hasbro?
Fingers crossed (and legs, in honor of Twister).
