The riches of Dylan's Candy Bar

Seventeen RISD students are going to make sweet fashion history in New York City on September 8.

The deal? The young artists will compete in a Project Runway-style competition to design candy versions of a shoe (yes... candy versions of a shoe), utilizing some of the 7,000 candies found at everyone's favorite NYC candy haunt: Dylan's Candy Bar in Manhattan. The event, dubbed "May Each Step You Take Be Sweet," combines the Rockport Company with Dylan's Candy Bar, and will by co-hosted by celebrity stylist and Rockport style ambassador Annabel Tollman and Dylan's Candy Bar founder (and Ralph's daughter) Dylan Lauren.

And the grand prize is even sweeter: The winning student will receive a $5,000 stipend to further his or her design studies courtesy of Rockport as well as a year’s supply of Rockport shoes and a one-year membership to the Dylan’s Candy Bar Candy of the Month Club.

Making shoes... from candy

The RISD students will battle with each other to create Rockport's "Janae Pump" for women and "Day 2 Night Wingtip" for men. The designs will be showcased in Dylan's colorful windows during Fashion's Night Out through the end of September, and the winner will be chosen at the September 8th event.

"Here at Dylan's Candy Bar, candy is more than something you can eat," said Lauren. "We are always looking for innovative ways to merge the worlds of fashion and pop culture with candy. I can't wait to see what designs the students come up with!"

Not just for artists... candy-lovers invited

During the event, consumers will be able to design and decorate their own versions of the candy shoes, meet Ms. Tollman, and enter to win a personal style makeover for themselves and their "sweetheart." Furthermore, Rockport will pop up a little shoe boutique inside Dylan's where you can try on and buy the Janae Pump and Breaktrail Chukka from Rockport's Fall 2011 collection.

Worth a trip to NYC? Definitely. "May Each Step You Take Be Sweet" Fashion's Night Out will be Thursday, Sept 8, from 6-9pm at Dylan's Candy Bar, 1101 Third Ave @ 60th St, NYC.
