Shrewsbury has been named one of the Best Places To Live for 2013 by CNN/Money, coming in a terrific #15 among the top 50 towns named by the popular news site.
Shrewsbury was one of the three Massachusetts towns ranked in the top 15 for 2013. Sharon and Westford were also included. In fact, Sharon, MA was named the #1 Best Place To Live in this year's ranking; Westford was ranked #11.
Shrewsbury's "scenic small-town life"
"Shrewsbury offers scenic small-town life with easy access to jobs in Worcester and Boston," according to Money. "While property taxes increased by 5% last year, the town still has one of the lowest rates in the state. The town center is packed with shops and ethnically-diverse restaurants, and more than $8 million worth of renovations are in store for the public library. For outdoor fun, there are 75 acres of recreation fields and fountains at Dean Park and crew regattas on Lake Quinsigamond."
The website considered such factors as median family income, amount of recent job growth, median home price, reading test scores, math test scores, and personal and property crime rates in developing the rankings. The top 5 were Sharon, MA, at #1 Louisville, CO, at #2, and Vienna, VA, Chanhassen, MN, and Sherwood, OR, at #3 through #5, respectively.
New England's best towns
Other New England towns that made the top 50 include Merrimack, NH (#23), Brookfield, CT (#26), Windham, NH (#30), Cheshire, CT (#39), and Simsbury, CT (#50).
In GoLocalWorcester's own rankings, Shrewsbury was ranked #29 in a list of the Best Communities in Massachusetts for 2013 and #3 in Central Mass.
