Governor Deval Patrick honored Giovani Dulcio of Worcester today as the Massachusetts Alliance of Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year.

Gov. Deval Patrick recognized Dulcio and three others joined  for being finalists in the 2012 Youth of the Year Competition. Dulcio was the overall winner. The other finalists were John Craig of Waltham and Magatte Toure of Fall River. A fourth finalist, Destiney Alicea of Haverhill, was unable to attend the ceremony.

“These young people have already accomplished so much,” said Patrick. “Their commitment to service gives us all reason to be hopeful about the future of the Commonwealth.”

The Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year program honors teen members who demonstrate exemplary moral character, responsibility to home and family, community and club service, scholastic achievement and diversity of school activities, ability to set goals, and poise and public speaking. In addition, the judges consider any significant obstacles the youth has had to overcome. The selection process includes essay writing, an oral presentation and an interview.
