Author Frida Berrigan will share stories from her new book  "It Runs in the Family: On Being Raised by Radicals into Rebellious Motherhood" at Stone Soup November 19.

Berrigan's stories revolve around the interesting lives her parents - Phil Berrigan and Elizabeth McAlister - led as former members of the clergy who became "icons" for their prophetic witness against war and the use of nuclear weapons; which gave them lengthy jail sentences.

When Berrigan finally became a parent, it forced her to come terms with her own radical upbringing.

The Book

The book also expands on Berrigan's stories and anecdotes from her column "Little Insurrections" on Waging Nonviolence, which posits parental discipline without threating children with spanking or slapping, and explores parenting fads.

"I love Frida Berrigan's voice--profound yet warm, gentle and fierce, deeply intelligent, authentic and charming. I wish this lovely, wise, and totally original book had been around when I was raising my child." said Anne Lamott, author of "Help, Thanks, Wow: Three Essential Prayers" and "Stitches: A Handbook on Meaning, Hope and Repair."

The event will begin at 6 p.m. and free to the public. Food will be provided, and a discussion to follow.

Stone Soup is located at 4 King Street, Worcester, MA for more information please visit their site or their event page.
