Here are 7 tips to help you decrease your cleaning time.
1. How many trinkets do you have lying around the home? I’m not saying to start throwing away your sentimental items your grandmother gave you, but think about all the small trinkets you have displayed. Are they stored in a glass cabinet or are they loose all over your home? Think about magazines and other items that clutter up your home. Make a plan to not let them accumulate over time.
2.Your office. Do you even remember the last time you cleaned your office? If your office is cluttered and disorganized, I bet it’s been awhile since you gave it a good cleaning. What’s hiding under the piles on your desk? I can tell you there are probably crumbs, bugs and dust under those piles. Just thinking about what’s under there makes you want to clean it, doesn’t it? When you have a clear desk and systems in place, you’ll end up cleaning your desk more often in very little time.
3.Bathrooms. Does anybody like to clean the bathroom? Get rid of the clutter in the bathroom and it might make it a little less painless. Create your working systems and try to get clutter off the countertops. Get creative and maximize your space.
4.Cluttered countertops. It’s difficult to clean a countertop when there is clutter on top. Most of the time you will wipe around it. What do you think is hiding under the clutter on the countertop if you haven’t cleaned it in months? When you have clutter-free countertops, it’s really easy to clean the countertop in one swoop. Less to move equals less time to clean.
5.Bottoms of closets. How many dust bunnies are hanging out in the bottom of your cluttered closets? When was the last time you took everything out of the closets to give them a good cleaning? If you have an organized closet, the only time you have to give it a good cleaning is the change of seasons when you take everything out to switch out your clothes. In between, you can sweep the floors and dust with ease and efficiency.
6. Does anybody really clean their basement? I don’t clean my basement, but I do sweep it once or twice a year. Make a plan to organize your basement. Contain items in seal tight, weather resistant bins. It’s much easier to sweep the basement floor if everything is actually off the floor. Give it a good sweep when you take out your holiday decorations each year. This will also help with critters that find their way in. If you can see the floors and have an organized basement, it’s easier to see if critters have made their way into the area.
7.Once you get your garage organized to where you can pull a car into it, you are only going to have to sweep your garage seasonally. This is another area where critters like to settle in and if you have an organized garage, you’ll be able to locate them easily.
If you hate to clean or find yourself wasting too much time cleaning, it’s time to get organized. Once you declutter and get organized, It will take you half the time to clean your home. You’ll be able to put more focus on the things you enjoy. Think about how long it takes you to clean the house and how often you clean. This is just one more reason why you should get organized.
