Have dreams of walking the red carpet on Oscar night? Here’s your chance. Residents of Rhode Island and southern New England can experience the thrills and surprises of the 83rd Academy Awards® on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Providence’s own Oscar Night® America party benefiting FLICKERS: Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) at the VMA Arts & Cultural Center.

Nationwide Celebration

The event is one of 50 parties officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that will be held across the country. "Oscar Night has always been an opportunity for friends and families to gather together and cheer for their favorite films and stars," said Academy Executive Director Bruce Davis. "This nationwide network of fundraising parties is a natural extension of that shared experience." Oscar Night parties last year raised more than $3 million, which all money raised remaining in the local community.

“RI glamour and creativity”

“Oscar Night generates excitement all over the world,” said Demetria J. Carr, RIIFF Managing Director. “With the Academy’s support, we hope to throw a unique salute to the movies of 2010 that will showcase an eclectic mix of RI glamour and creativity.” ABC6 will interview guests as they walk the red carpet to a celebration on the VMA stage, sampling the finest appetizers from Ellen Loconto Catering, Hollywood-style desserts from Simply Devine Catering, sweet surprises from Sweet Lorraine’s, and jazz entertainment by the Eric Bloom Trio.
