Saint-Gobain to Celebrate U.S. Luge Team With Friday Night Skate

Saint-Gobain will celebrate the United States Luge Team with their fourth annual community skate at the Worcester Common Oval on Friday night. 

"We have hosted Friday Night Skate for the past three years and it is now becoming a fun tradition for us. We hope the community will take advantage of the free admission to enjoy a night of skating with their families while learning more about the sport of luge,” said Bradley H. Johnson, Vice President, Saint-Gobain Abrasives North America.

The event will be held on Friday January 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and admission is FREE. 

Friday Night Skate 

In addition to skating, members of the Luge Team will be at the Worcester Common Oval for a luge demonstration and exhibition. Joining the team will be former Olympic luge star Gordy Sheer, a 1998 Olympic Luge Doubles Silver Medalist. 

Schedule of Events 

  • 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM - Public Skate
  • 6:00 PM to 6:15 PM - Luge Demonstration/Exhibition
  • 6:15 PM to 8:00 PM - Public Skate Resumes & Meet the U.S. Luge Team on the Plaza Overlooking the Oval

Ice Climbing with Adventure Spirit

For the adventurous out there, Adventure Spirit in Vermont is your place for ice climbing. Choose from climbing at Bolton Quarry, Bristol Cliffs or even Smuggler's Notch to be lead by one of their experienced instructors. Be prepared to spend your day strenuously climbing some of nature's frozen streams and flow offs. East Bay Bike Path, Bristol to Providence RI 

Grab your poles and skis and head down to the East Bay Bicycle Path for some Cross Country Skiing. Of course, you can go cross country skiing anywhere there is snow and some flat land, but the East Bay Bike Path stretches about 14 miles from Bristol to India Point Park in Providence.

Lowell Winterfest

The 16th Annual Lowell Winterfest is set to take place on February 19 and 20th. 

The schedule f events includes free ice skating, an opening ceremony and a big winter carnival that the kids will simply love.
