Future Focus Media Co-op and OSDlive.com will sponsor the “SOLEcial Studies Back-to School Buy, Sell & Trade Sneaker Event” on Saturday, August 17th at Crompton Place. All proceeds will benefit the rebuilding of Stone Soup, a local community resource center.
This is the first time such an event will take place in Worcester, bringing people who love sneakers, also known as "sneakerheads" together, in a party atmosphere to buy, sell and trade sneakers with other sneaker aficionados, or people that collect, obsess and show their passion for sneakers from all the top, well-known brands such Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Puma and New Balance, to name a few.
SOLEcial Studies, the educational footprint of OSDlive.com, aims to educate youths using sneakers as a platform to learn about STEM-Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It has been hailed as,
“A great way to encourage kids to stay in school, find what they're passionate about and to work collaboratively," said Donkor Minors, a public school teacher in Boston.
Sneakerheads will be able to “kick it” while jamming to music spun by one of the areas’ premiere DJs and sneaker connoisseur, .DJ E Dubble (JAMN 94.5 FM).
Admission to the event is $5 dollars and the cost to purchase a vendor table to display sneakers, clothing or accessories is $20.
Stone Soup
As mentioned, all of the money raised from the event will go towards rebuilding Stone Soup Artist Activist Collective and Community Resource Center (http://www.stonesoupworcester.org), located at 4 King Street in Worcester that suffered a horrific fire in March 2009.
“Stone Soup was not just a home for me, but also a door of opportunities and a splendid place to network. Its foundation was built off of different groups with one focus to serve the community by working together,” said Patricia Feraud, 16, a Stone Soup member, explaining the importance of rebuilding the Center.
Raffle tickets will be available with prizes including various Nike, Adidas and Air Jordan sneakers along with gift certificates to local area businesses.
The event lasts 1-6 p.m. Crompton Place is located at 138 Green Street in the Canal District.
