Earth Ltd. at Southwick’s Zoo has declared August 3 as EARTH Awareness Day. The purpose of this day is to celebrate the Earth as well as demonstrate the ways in which the grassroots organization housed inside the zoo, EARTH Limited, contributes to a positive environmental impact. This event is free to all EARTH members, and the price of regular Zoo admission for the public. This includes a number of special events, exhibits, and lecturers, with all zoo admission proceeds donated to EARTH Limited.
Alongside all of the regularly scheduled shows at Southwick’s Zoo, a variety of interesting activities are scheduled. Learn about Remarkable Reptiles at 11 am and Wingmaster’s Birds of Prey at 1 pm, watch a Homing Pigeon Release at 2:30 pm, and hear about Amazing Adaptations at 3 pm, all at the Earth Discovery Center. There will also be a variety of informational tables, a cow-milking demonstration at the petting zoo at 2 pm, and presentations by EARTH interns throughout the day. Exhibit tables include, Endangered Species, Wetlands Discovery and “The Buzz about Bee’s”.
EARTH Limited
EARTH Limited is an educational non-profit organization that works to educate others on environmental issues. Through on-site programs, as well as community outreach programs, EARTH Limited strives to create awareness of animal ecology, endangered species, and wildlife conservation. EARTH memberships can be bought at Southwick’s main entrance or at the Earth Discovery Center.
“This day was created to show the public how you can make a difference,” says Betsey Brewer, the Executive Director of EARTH Limited, as well as an owner of Southwick’s Zoo. “We are completely funded on donations that allow us to run local educational programs and support a number of local and global ecological and conversation efforts, and the Zoo does a lot of work to support us.”
All are welcome to attend this event on August 3rd at Southwick’s Zoo to help EARTH Limited spread its message about environmental conservation. On August 3rd, and daily throughout the season, Southwick’s Zoo is open from 10 am to 5 pm. Visit Southwick’s Zoo online at www.southwickszoo.com to stay up-to-date on all of their special events.
