The LOOK: Blonde Is Beautiful

Saturday, April 13, 2013

Whether you were born this way or found your inner blonde in the salon, take care to make it the best blonde you've ever been.

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

Warm weather makes us all want to be blonde, and if you are (or have become) one, remember that one of the most important things you can do for those golden tresses is to care for them with a good product. Actually, we're talking the best product you can afford, because remember: going blonde isn't easy. It's an investment of your time and money, so you need to protect your investment at all costs!

By using a shampoo and conditioner especially made for your blonde hair you will not only be cleaning and conditioning your hair but you will be adding vitamins and strength to hair that has been compromised by product and chemicals.

Here are 3 tips for caring for your blonde this spring and summer when we tend to really expose our hair to those elements.

Protect the color

Most importantly, protect your color. Shampoo and condition with your blonde color-treated shampoo. My fave is the new blonde product series by Renne Furterer.

Keep the UVs out

Use color guard sprays with UV filters to stop hair from fading from the sun. If you would like to go a little lighter, the sun is not the way to go as it lightens to a very unnatural shade of blonde and thereby removes all your stylist's hard work (and your money). You'll find yourself looking good for about a day and then it will all get really yellow, and not in a good way.

Rock a hat

Shop for a great sun hat or head scarves for your time in the sun. Your hair will surely thank you for it and you'll up your style factor!

So take advantage of these tips, and you'll find yourself out-blonding the best of them!

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
