This Week’s 20 Most Watched TV Shows in Massachusetts
Sunday, September 06, 2015
GoLocalWorcester has obtained the list of the 20 highest rated television shows from last week (August 24-30) from Nielsen.
SEE LIST BELOW: The 20 Most Watched TV Shows in Massachusetts
This list does not include any Netflix Originals or Amazon Prime TV Shows.
The original list from Nielsen was the 25 cable and network television shows with the highest ratings from the Boston area (the only major city measured in Massachusetts). GoLocal has omitted news shows that are on every night (FOX 25 at 10) and Boston Red Sox games on NESN.
The list is comprised solely of television shows and news shows that only take place once or twice per week. GoLocal only used the highest rated nights for Big Brother.
The MTV Video Music Awards was by far the most popular television event in Massachusetts last week.
How the Nielsen Rating System Works:
- Nielsen measures more than 40 percent of the world's viewing behavior.
- Ratings from Massachusetts are based on households in the Boston area.
- Nielsen measures TV audiences by using viewer diaries (in which viewers record what they watch) and through Set Meters - small devices connected to the television. From the group of viewers with diaries and Set Meters, Nielsen measures the percentage of households that watch a TV show. For example, last week 7.1% of households participating in the Boston area had the Patriots preseason game on in their home. This was the highest percentage for that week.
