Top Shelf Tuesday - August 16, 2016

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

Welcome to Top Shelf Tuesday where I’ll be highlighting books on their actual pub day, Tuesdays. Altamont: The Rolling Stones, the Hells Angels, and the Inside Story of Rock’s Darkest Day is out today! Award-winning, veteran journalist Joel Selvin brings his trademark research, combines it with his love of music and the result is an incredible story about what was supposed to be “Woodstock on the West Coast” and was anything but. If you want to learn details that have never before been revealed and get the full scope of an idea that went from bad to worse between the location, the drugs and a particular brand of Hells Angels don’t miss this book.

I had the best time chatting with Joel and you can hear it on the Reading With Robin podcast available on iTunes.

The photos included in this book add to the page-turning storytelling. A young Mick Jagger appears transfixed on the stage where fights are breaking out all around him. The Stones needed an ending to the documentary, Gimme Shelter, which was being filmed on location. They sure did get one. It was the perfect storm of idealism, arrogance, concert logistics and of course, those drugs.

Tonight! Point Street Reading Series. Tuesday, August 16th. The series is free and open to the public. Please rsvp to [email protected] with the number in your party. The following authors will be reading from their new novels: Jensen Beach (Swallowed By The Cold), Cheryl Tan (Sarong Party Girls), Amy Gottlieb (The Beautiful Possible), Lisa F. Smith ( Girl Walks Out Of A Bar) and Ann Leary ( The Children) It’s always a fun time at Point Street Reading Series! **Special addition to tonight’s line-up it’s Rhode Island’s favorite funnyman, Charlie Hall! Charlie will be talking about his brand new adult coloring book, Electile Dysfunction and whatever else comes up. I can’t wait! Books will be for sale by Brown Bookstore.

Robin Kall is Rhode Island's own book maven. From author interviews to events with best-selling authors, Robin shares her love wherever and whenever possible. You can connect with on Facebook and follow her on Twitter, and on her website which is updated constantly with all new author interviews and bookish information including the Reading With Robin Book Club. Reading With Robin podcasts can be subscribed to on iTunes. Robin’s latest lit-adventure is the brand new monthly reading series, Point Street Reading Series.
