Train To Be a ‘Safe Sitter’ This Week

Monday, December 27, 2010

Here's the perfect thing to do with your tween this week: sign them up for a "Safe Sitter" course. If there are younger siblings around, you've just invested in a built-in sitting system (with real skills, including care of a choking infant or child). Further, you've got a tween with some real, marketable skills. The recommended age for the course is 11-14.

And this week, a one-day program will be held on Wednesday, Dec 29, at The Gerry House on the RI Hospital campus in Providence.

The Safe Sitter course is more than just a babysitting course, say its organizers. It advocates for safe childcare, good parenting skills and responsible adolescents. Most instructors are registered nurses.

Topics covered in the program include:
    * Babysitting as a Business
    * Preventing Injuries
    * Success on the Job
    * Safety for the Sitter
    * Behavior Management Skills
    * Preventing Injuries
    * Injury Management
    * Care of a Choking Infant and Child

Cost for "Safe Sitter" is $40; to register, call 431-5410, or email [email protected].
