US News Names Best Colleges 2017—How Did Central MA Colleges Rank?

The US News & World Report has released their 2017 list of Best Colleges in the United States and Holy Cross is ranked as the 32nd best Liberal Arts College in the country.

Princeton University is ranked number one among National Universities while Harvard held on to second place and the University of Chicago moved up one spot to tie with Yale for third.

Among National Liberal Arts Colleges, Williams College in Massachusetts took the top spot while Amherst came in second.

In the Regional Universities North category, Assumption College moved up 9 spots into a tie for 23rd in the North region.

“Assumption is once again pleased to be recognized by the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Guide, as we pride ourselves on providing students with a valuable Catholic, liberal arts education that offers a strong foundation for their futures,” said Assumption College President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D.

Providence College in Rhode Island is ranked number one.

Note: Nichols College was unranked and Becker College's rank was not published. Anna Maria College's rank was also not published.

Note as to categories: Schools in the National Universities category, such as Clark University and Worcester Polytechnic, offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and Ph.D. programs. These colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research. Liberal Arts Colleges are schools like Williams, which emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the liberal arts fields of study. Regional Universities offer a full range of undergrad programs and some master's programs but few doctoral programs, and Regional Colleges focus on undergraduate education but grant fewer than half their degrees in liberal arts disciplines.
