Freedom Song Festival to Benefit Central Mass’ Veterans in Need

Friday, August 09, 2013

From last year's Freedom Song Festival. Musicians will perform once again for a great cause.

Veterans Inc.'s Freedom Song Festival will be returning to Independence Hall in Shrewsbury on Sunday, September 8. Massachusetts’ Premier U2 Tribute band Joshua Tree will headline a group of bands from all around Central Mass including Hero on Hold, Nemes, Jukebox Junkies, Dale LePage with Joe D’Angelo and Dan Gable, and the Abeltones.

The event will also features other live entertainment, such as an illusionist. There will be a variety of food from local restaurants available, local vendors and a special children's section with carnival games, bounce houses and more.

The festivities will raise much needed funds for the Veterans Inc. Food Services Program, serving homeless veterans in Worcester and Shrewsbury and providing food boxes to veteran families throughout Central Massachusetts. 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit this worthy cause.

"During summer, the need is greater as donations decrease while people are on vacation and away from home.," remarks Lisa Quintiliani Bousbouras of Veterans Inc.

"Veterans Inc. anticipates an even greater need for food this year... families sometimes are forced to make the difficult choice between using limited income to purchase nutritious food or pay rent and utility bills. With support from Veterans Inc., families are able to remain stably housed while still maintaining a proper diet and homeless veterans have access to nutritious hot meals that otherwise may not be available to them. "

Veterans Inc.'s Vital Programs

Last year Veterans Inc. served more than 132,000 hot meals, gave out more than 70,000 pounds of food through their food pantry, and had more than 800 unduplicated families visit for Food Boxes. They expect moderate increases in each of these areas this year.

All in all the festivities, are fun for families and residents of all ages and at the same time helps out Veterans Inc's in furthering their mission, which has become so vital in recent years for the area's veterans-in-need.

"This event caters to all ages. It is family-friendly with lots of activities for kids. Families are sure to enjoy the festivities while learning about Veterans Inc.," says Bousbouros.

Families are often seeking fun things to do on the weekends, what better way to enjoy the day and know that you are supporting a great cause?"

"People should also attend to support our Veterans who have sacrificed so much to fight for our freedom. This is a unique opportunity for parents to instill respect for our veterans in their kids and to teach them what our brave soldiers are doing for us each day. Most importantly it brings the community together to celebrate these heroes in our own special way," she adds.

The event last noon-6 pm. For more information on Veterans, Inc. please visit the organization's website. Veterans Inc. is also still seeking sponsorships for the Freedom Song Festival. As the event’s Presenting Sponsor, Dunkin’ Donuts has already generously donated $10,000 dollars to this extremely worthy cause. All donations are tax deductible.
