WGBH’s A Saint Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn Coming to Hanover Theatre
Sunday, February 26, 2017
The Worcester performance will take place on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m.
“I am always very excited to present wonderful Irish musical connections in such terrific spaces, especially this time of year. It’s an excellent opportunity to share the beauty of our musical traditions with our community while we celebrate this joyous holiday of St. Patrick’s Day!” said producer and host Brian O’Donovan.
O’Donovan will be joined by music director Keith Murphy, who has been with the series since 2012. The 2017 line-up features a group of performers, including the Karan Casey Band, featuring lead vocalist Karan Casey, founding member of Irish supergroup Solas. Casey has been called “one of the most provocative and innovative voices” in Irish music. Casey and her band will be joined by world-renowned fiddler Liz Carroll and celebrated young harp and fiddle duo Jenna Moynihan & Mairi Chaimbeul.
The Miller siblings, Ruby May and Samuel from Smithfield, Rhode Island, will round out the cast as the show’s dancers. The Millers have been dancing and competing for more than a dozen years with the Goulding School of Irish Dance in Medford, MA and Cranston, RI.
They have represented their school in national and international contests, most recently in Glasgow at the 2016 World Irish Dancing Championships where Samuel captured 5th place earning his fourth world medal. They joined A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn last season sharing with audiences the toe-tapping rhythms of traditional dance.
