Foley 5K to Support Worcester Public Schools

Saturday, April 07, 2012

Those looking for a 5K race or a two mile walk for a good cause can head to the first ever Foley 5K race, sponsored by the Worcester Educational Development Foundation.

The event aims to raise much-needed funds for equipment, and to sponsor programs that support health and fitness in Worcester Public Schools. These funds will go toward recess equipment at the elementary school level and updated physical education equipment at the secondary level.

The race will take place at Foley Stadium on Chandler Street, and is scheduled to begin at noon on May 6th. The Worcester Educational Development Foundation, established in 2005 to support teachers and students in Worcester Public Schools, is hoping for a large response from the community. They encourage those that cannot run to simply walk the course for a good cause.

To participate in the race, the Foundation is asking for a donation of $15.00 for students and $20.00 for adults. Reserve your spot now, because after April 20th, the price will jump to $25. Pre-registering for the race will also land you a free t-shirt, and the post race festivities will include food for all participants.

Awards will be given in both the youth and adult categories, and the race will have an Olympic finish with live music from the South High Band. Central Mass Striders will direct the race, and the title sponsor will be Goodworks Insurance.

Anyone wishing to register, volunteer, be a donor or sponsor should e-mail [email protected] for more information.
