Worcester Fireworks Display Set For July 3rd

Thursday, June 27, 2013

Fireworks are a 4th of July staple.

Grab your blankets and chairs and head to East Park in Worcester on Wednesday, July 3 for this year's awe-inspiring fireworks display. The Independence Day festivities are made possible by presenting sponsor Fallon Community Health Plan.

The park will open at 6 pm, with plenty of food and entertainment. The food court features summer fare such as hot dogs, hamburgers, snacks, and a variety of treats to satisfy even the sweetest tooth. Games and activities at the Kid’s Korner will keep the youngsters entertained as they await the show. The celebration will begin with a ceremonial flag raising at 7:45 pm, followed by a patriotic performance by the acclaimed Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra, as part of their Summer Concert Series. The sky will be lit with a brilliant firework show at approximately 9:30 pm to commemorate the birth of our nation.

“Worcester is the place to be on Independence Day — and once again, Fallon Community Health Plan will celebrate alongside the extraordinary city we’ve called home for the past 35 years,” said Christine Cassidy, Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer. “We couldn’t be more pleased to demonstrate our continued commitment and gratitude to the community through our support of this Central Mass family-fun tradition.”

The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce coordinates the celebration in partnership with the City of Worcester and event sponsors. Timothy P. Murray, president and CEO of the Chamber states, "The Chamber is happy to take a leadership role in planning and coordinating the celebration. This event is another example of how businesses support the community by giving back to the very people who have helped their businesses to thrive.”

In addition to the presenting sponsor, Fallon Community Health Plan, numerous other local institutions are taking part in sponsorship.

“Their generosity makes it possible for us to come together and share in the spirit of freedom and independence that this great nation was founded on,” continued Mr. Murray.

The Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra’s appearance is part of its 63rd consecutive year of admission-free summer concerts whose sponsorship in 2013 is underwritten and supported by Massachusetts Cultural Council, Worcester Arts Council, Charter TV3, Bank of America and a number of other local companies and institutions.

The rain date is Friday, July 5.
