Worcester Fitness Will Host 2nd Annual Winter Coat and Hat Drive

Friday, December 12, 2014

On December 18th, MacDonald's Tavern inside Worcester Fitness will host the 2nd Annual 'Keeping Worcester Warm' Coat and Hat Drive.

"After the success of last year I’m pumped to see what this year brings for 'Keeping Worcester Warm,' said John McLaughlin, organizer of the event.

Donations of coats and hats will be delivered to the Family Health Center, Community Health Link, the Friendly House, AIDS Project Worcester, and St.John's Parish.

McLaughlin said, "I started 'Keeping Worcester Warm' last year in honor of my father who passed away in 2012. A big inspiration for me starting this charity is the company I work for: Comfort Home Care. Comfort Home Care is a visiting nurse agency that specializes in caring for patients with mental illness. We work close with the community and we come across individuals that may be homeless and may not have proper clothing to get through the cold winter. It wasn't until I started working for Comfort Home Care three years ago that I realized how many people in Worcester alone need winter clothes to make it through the winter months."

The mission of 'Keeping Worcester Warm' is "to bring comfort to the residents at the heart of the Commonwealth, who are without proper attire during this winter holiday season. Doing your part is as simple as going through your closets and donating any winter coats, hats or gloves that you can spare."

If people are unable to attend the event, but would still like to help, donations can be dropped off at Worcester Fitness at 440 Grove Street, Peak Fitness at 30 Glennie Street, or Comfort Home Care at 997 Millbury Street.

At the event, there will be a DJ, appetizers, raffles and prizes, and a full bar will be available. The party starts at 6 p.m. Worcester Fitness is located at 440 Grove Street in Worcester. For more information, please call John McLaughlin at 978-551-2839.
