Acknowledging the obstacles, without granting them power is a key to successful leadership, according to Vernice "Flygirl" Armour, the first African American female Marine Corps combat pilot. Armour was the first of two keynote speakers at the third annual Worcester Women's Leadership Conference sponsored by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce.

"Opportunities don't go away," Armour said. "Other people take advantage of them."

Lee Woodruff, whose husband Bob Woodruff was critically injured in Iraq while he was working there as a news correspondent, was the afternoon keynote speaker.
