Worcester’s Inside Guide: Paulies New Orleans Jazz and Blues Festival

Friday, May 11, 2012

Catch authentic New Orleans acts like Restless Natives with Big Chief Juan Pardo.

What many Worcesterites may not know is that they don’t have to venture far to hear New Orleans jazz and blues. On June 22-24 2012, Paulies New Orleans Jazz and Blues Festival comes to Worcester.

The mission of Paulies New Orleans Jazz & Blues Festival is to provide quality New Orleans & Louisiana jazz, blues, country, funk and zydeco music and food within an urban setting. The first Festival was held in 2008 with The Chris Fiz Band and The Hurricane Horns.

Each year since then, the festival has grown with 2011 considered a “breakout year”. Over fourteen hundred music lovers attended the festival over its two days. Festival goers were treated to the music of such talented artists as Tab Benoit, Eric Lindell Band, Big Sam's Funky Nation, Mem Shannon & The Membership, Johnny Sansone, Henri Smith New Orleans Friends & Flavours w/ Amadee Castenell & Charles Neville, The Roadkill Orchestra, The Hurricane Horns and the return of the Anders Osborne Band with special guest Billy Iuso.

The 2012 festival will be held at John and Son’s Urban Fairgrounds at 226 Chandler Street in Worcester, rain or shine. This year’s festival has an all-star lineup spread over its three days.
Friday from 7PM to midnight, New Orleans is represented by Shaka & The Soul Shaker, Henri Smith New Orleans Friends & Flavours and Boston’s The Soul of a Man.

Get your tickets in advance, but don't forget to arrive early as well to stake out a good spot.

Saturday from 11:30AM until midnight, straight from Louisiana are Billy Iuso & Restless Natives w/ Big Chief Juan Pardo of the Golden Commanches Mardi Gras Indians, Honey Island Swamp Band, Mem Shannon and the Membership, Anders Osborne Band, Tab Benoit and Eric Lindell Band. Rounding out the line-up are Worcester musicians, The Roadkill Orchestra.

On Sunday, the festival concludes with more music straight from New Orleans featuring Jumpin' Johnny Sansone, the return of Billy Iuso & Restless Natives w/ Big Chief Juan Pardo of the Golden Commanches Mardi Gras Indians, The Royal Southern Brotherhood, Bonerama and Sonny Landreth.

Drinks, beer, soft drinks and an assortment of mouth watering Louisiana style cuisine is available for purchase. Enjoy traditional delicacies such as pulled pork, crawfish boil, jambalaya, gumbo, beignets and peach cobbler.

When asked for a quote about their festival, BA Events had only this to say, "Laisse le bon temps rouler (Let the good times roll!)". Hard to argue with that!
Tickets can be purchased in advance on line here or at the door.

Insider Tips:
Order in advance, online for a substantial ticket reduction.
