What are you looking for in a partner?

The man I’m looking for is mature and seeking a committed relationship. He is ambitious, and is focused on his goals and profession, not just on making money.  While I remain open minded, I’d likely be attracted to someone more on the conservative end of the political spectrum, who takes an interest in the social and political happenings in our country and world. He is an ethical person, and believes strongly in God.  He is patient, compassionate, even-tempered (at least most of the time), and has a positive, upbeat attitude.

What is a deal breaker for you?

I want to get married, own a house in the suburbs, and, God willing, have children. If a man does not desire any one of these three things, he need not apply.

What is the funniest experience you’ve had on a date?

I’m far too serious to have funny dates.  Though, given the opportunity to meet my parents, my father might add levity to the situation by showing off his KA-BAR.

What’s the one thing you want a potential partner to know about you from the start?

I’m very true to my character, values, and beliefs; if a relationship threatens my integrity, the relationship won’t last.

Where do you go in Worcester to meet people?

I frequent local trivia nights, restaurants with good wine selections, and various special events.  You might find me at any local attraction, especially if it is connected to an opportunity to let my inner geek out.  (Did somebody say books and historical artifacts?  I’m in!)

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I’ll either be married, living in that house in the suburbs, and looking forward to the arrival of my first child... or in the convent.

What are you looking for in a partner?

Two of the most important characteristics I look for in a man would have to be honesty and patience.  If a man is truthful, sincere and straightforward I would presume he would be an honest man.  Patience is also important to me.   Being involved in school, work and community service I sometimes get very busy. Therefore, patience is a must!

What is a deal breaker for you?

The biggest deal breaker for me would be a person who smokes and or uses drugs. I am a super health freak and I could not deal with the smell of the cigarettes or illegal drug usage.

What is the funniest experience you’ve had on a date?

I had a boyfriend while traveling on a national (dancing) tour of the US and Canada. We tried to fit “date night” into our crazy performance schedules where time allowed.  He was so excited about this big surprise date he planned for me while we were performing in a small town in Iowa.  Long story short, the restaurant he raved about being the “best in town” was actually a rundown shack in an alley.  He desperately searched for a really nice restaurant.  We ended up at a local pizza joint in town.  It was hilarious to see him struggle trying to plan this surprise date (good meals are hard to come by when you’re on tour).  In the end we had a great time; enjoyed each other’s company and the pizza was great. Even though it was not what he had planned, the evening was very enjoyable!

What’s the one thing you want a potential partner to know about you from the start?

They need to know that I am very determined. That might be a good or a bad thing to some people. When I set a goal for myself I put forth 100% of my energy to accomplish that goal. I don’t let anything stop me, nor do I ever give up. So just support me until I feel I have accomplished my goals!

Where do you go in Worcester to meet people?

For the most part I just spend time with friends on the weekends as much as I can.  I do attend concerts in town and go to social events.  I currently have a full plate with school, work and other time consuming events.  So I’m just waiting for “Mr. Right” to find me.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I hope to have a full time job that I love. I also hope I am in serious relationship and married by the time I am 30.  I would love to start a family a few years after we settle down.

Allison Leahy, 36, Northboro, CBS radio

What are you looking for in a partner?

I want someone who can make me laugh.  Someone who is happy with themselves and isn’t afraid to be themselves.  Someone who will go out for nice dinners or stay home in sweatpants and order take-out.  Someone who I can be myself with and have fun with.

What is a deal breaker for you?

Arrogance. Can’t stand it. And smoking.

What’s the funniest experience you’ve had on a date?

I went on a first (and only) date with a guy who insisted on calling me “Tiger” the whole time.  I went home early that night.

What’s the one thing you want a potential partner to know about you from the start?

That I’m a good, genuine person.

Where do you go in Worcester to meet people?

I can’t say I really go to too many bars looking to meet someone.  A wise man once said “I get older, they stay the same age”.  In my case, that translates to, “Somewhere along the way, I became the ‘old’ person in the bar.”  I just go out with my friend and if someone catches my eye or if I catch theirs, then great!

Where do you see yourself 5 year from now?

I see myself in a great relationship, happy with my job, owning a condo and the car of my dreams!

Kathleen Cooper, 28, Webster, Realtor

What are you looking for in a partner?

I’m looking for someone that I can laugh with.  Someone with a sense of adventure and passion for food. I’d love someone athletic that would enjoy playing sports with me as much as watching them.  I’m also a huge fan of roller coasters & beaches so someone that enjoys those things would be ideal.

What is a deal breaker for you?

Drugs are a deal breaker for me.  I’m not a fan or smokers, but I’m more flexible with that.  Also, guys that are unable to commit.

What is the funniest experience you’ve had on a date?

The funniest (most fun) date I’ve ever had was a 3-part date.  We started off with candlepin bowling.  After we finished up with that I was taken to a Brazilian Restaurant, (yes, like you saw in the movie Bridesmaids) for dinner.  We had the meat buffet, which was AWESOME!  We ended the night at the drive-in movie theater watching a cheesy horror movie. I loved all of it.

What’s the one thing you want a potential partner to know about you from the start?

I have young children that are my world.  I LOVE being a mom and love my kids.  I am not looking for a father to replace theirs.  They have a great dad and I do well on my own with them, but eventually I’d like someone that loves kids as well to share our lives with. I currently share joint custody with their dad and we split them during the week.

Where do you go in Worcester to meet people?

Usually I’m hanging around some of the happy hour spots around Worcester with my girlfriends throughout the week.  Some of our favorites are The Sole, 111 Chophouse, Mezcal & The Banner.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

5 Years from now I see myself settled down with a husband and lots of success in my career.  I would like to be traveling part of the time with my partner.  I’d love to own a vacation home on a beach somewhere to visit frequently.

Carla Kenny, 34, Uxbridge, Licensed Therapist

What are you looking for in a partner?

I am looking for a man who is motivated, goal directed and won’t settle for mediocre. I like a man who is family oriented and follows through with their word.  A man who is kind, compassionate, loving, romantic, silly and serious (when needed) is very attractive to me. I also enjoy a man who likes to go out and do things outdoors – and allows a dog or two to come along.

What is a deal breaker for you?

A deal breaker for me is a man who doesn’t like animals, who smokes, drinks too much, sits around on the couch all day and plays video games and who has more than one ex-wife. All set with that. It is most important for me to have a man in my life who is honest and loyal and a genuine good guy. I don’t like games, and I want someone who says what they mean and mean what they say.

What is the funniest experience you’ve had on a date?

I can’t think of anything at the moment.

What’s the one thing you want a potential partner to know about you from the start?

I love animals and have 5 dogs and 2 cats. I do a lot of rescue work during my free time. I enjoy doing this and if you can join me in this fun and rewarding work, all the better!

Where do you go in Worcester to meet people?

I have not dated in the past 10 years until now and I am actually not in-the-know of places to go in Worcester.  I have gone to several restaurants in the area but am up for new ideas!

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I hope to be in a serious relationship and hopefully planning on settling down and starting a family. Workwise, I am where I want to be…so hopefully my experience and expertise will continue to grow.

Dawn Tasillo, 38, Grafton, Assistant Professor, Clerkship Director, Dept. of OBGYN, UMass School of Medicine/Umass Memorial Medical Center

What are you looking for in a partner?

Kind - cares about people and tries to be a good person. Pays attention to what will make someone happy and makes that happen, pays attention to what will make them sad and avoids that too.
Challenging - challenges my ideas in a positive way
Reliable
Adventurous- as in open to new ideas and experiences. Athletic and travel adventures are a plus.
Has goals for their profession/career, and this includes having a family.

What is a deal breaker for you?

Smoking, drugs, extreme religious fervor or ultra-conservative views.

What is the funniest experience you’ve had on a date?

There was the lovely date whose vasectomy crept in to the conversation early on thus ending the date after drinks. Or the time I offered to pay for drinks on a date when I knew there wouldn’t be a second time and I had left my wallet in the car (which I’ve never done before in my life and I’m sure he thought was a ploy).  I did meet a guy, whom I went on to date for a while, at a Halloween party.  He was dressed as the Karate Kid wearing a shower curtain like in the movie.

What’s the one thing you want a potential partner to know about you from the start?

I am a 96% extrovert (on the Meyers Briggs scale) which means I say every thought I have every moment I have them (to paraphrase from When Harry Met Sally), and people need to figure out when to listen.

Where do you go in Worcester to meet people?

If only I knew! This is the problem isn’t it? There isn’t a huge singles scene (that I am aware of).

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I am happy with career and friends and life in general.  But what I’d really love is to be a Mom.

Shana Harris, 35, Holden, Nurse

What are you looking for in a partner?

I look for someone who believes in Jesus Christ. Also, someone who is honest, compassionate, sincere and if you're funny, you get bonus points! smile

What is a deal breaker for you?

An automatic deal breaker would be if you are not a Christian.
