Worcester’s stART On the Street Returns To Canal District

Tuesday, April 09, 2013

stART on the Street will bring unique handmade wares to Worcester for the second year on June 2.

Worcester’s premier arts festival stART on the Street will return to Worcester’s Canal District this June for its annual Spring Edition event. Coordinators plan to bring over 200 area artists and crafters, three stages of music and performance, a dozen food vendors and trucks, a youth market, kids’ activities, and more to Green Street and Harding Street.

stART is a volunteer-run non-profit that has run some of Central Massachusetts’ premier cultural events. In September, stART celebrated its 10th anniversary and was awarded the key to the City of Worcester for its contribution to the local art culture and economy.

stART on the Street will use the urban landscape to celebrate Worcester, expanding from Green Street to include Harding Street near Kelly Square. In addition to the variety of local music groups, artists and crafters, stART will also host a non-profit area, kids’ activities, and a food court including vegan and organic options. With something to see in each alley and parking lot along the street, many area stores, bars, and restaurants will open their doors to join in the festivities.

This will be the second consecutive spring festival in the Canal District, following an outpouring of positivity from visitors and participants alike. stART coordinator Jason Macierowski “loved the fact that it was on Green Street. Somehow it not only blended perfectly into that area but also seemed to magnify the Canal District and its establishments into something much bigger than just the area or stART.” One attendee commented that he was thrilled to see so many artists succeeding, and vendor Lisa Linard thanked stART coordinators for “pulling together such a fun and well-organized event.”

In 2012, more than 80,000 people attended stART’s three festivals, which feature local artists and crafters showing and selling their handmade wares. This June, the team of coordinators and countless volunteers is planning to carry last year’s excitement into 2013.

The second annual stART on the Street: Canal District Spring Edition will take place from 11am to 5 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2012, with a rain date of June 9. For more information on getting involved, donating, visiting or sponsoring, email [email protected].
