15 Biggest News Stories of 2015 in Central MA

Snow, crime and education were among the topics that fueled the biggest stories of 2015 in Central Massachusetts.

From violence at North High School to the 25 Wealthiest and Most Influential were just some of the stories that got people talking, sharing on Facebook and Tweeting.

Central Massachusetts residents continue to be concerned about education and crime and when violence hit the Worcester Schools readers were concerned and engaged.

2015 was also a year of fun and interaction with the Coolest people in the region. The Worcester area loved the big data stories - from ranking of high schools to the analysis behind the 25 Wealthiest.

TERRORISM In MA

The terror attack in San Bernardino was perpetrated by two individuals who were not on any global watch list despite their travel to Saudi Arabia. Neither of the ISIS attackers were detected by any federal law enforcement agency or California law enforcement.

Nine Staff Members Assaulted, Four Students Arrested at North High in One Day

It was a tough year for North High. It started with fights and included the embarrasing sign posted.

"A total of nine staff members - four assistant principals and five teachers - were assaulted during two separate fights in one day at North High School last week.

Four students were arrested for the pair of altercations that took place on Wednesday, September 9. Two were arrested at the school, while the other two students were summoned to court for disruption of school assembly."

Massachusetts’ Most Infamous Terrorists

Acts of terrorism occurring around the world and a recent break-in and theft of high power weapons at an Army Reserve Center right in Worcester has raised the stress and attention to terrorism.

BREAKING: FBI Investigating Weapons Stolen From Worcester Army Reserve Center

Weapons were stolen from the United States Army Reserve Armory in Worcester on Saturday night. The facility -- the  Lincoln Stoddard Army Reserve Center  is located on Lake Street.

The FBI says some weapons are missing as a result of the break-in.

Former Employee Accuses Worcester Vietnamese Restaurant of Re-Using Food

A former employee of a Vietnamese restaurant in Worcester is accusing the restaurant owners of re-using food, stealing money from their employees, and numerous other health code violations.

Chau Vu worked for seven years as a server at Pho Dakao on Park Avenue in Worcester. On Sunday morning, Vu posted a long letter on Facebook that expressed her concerns of several unhealthy and grotesque practices that Pho Dakao owners Hiep and My Pham implemented at their restaurant. BREAKING: Dead Body Found Near Worcester Tech High School

As crime at the Worcester schools was a top issue -- the story that raised the most interest and concern.

"A dead body was found in an abandoned property near the grounds of Worcester Technical High School early this morning.

The body was found by the school’s Police Liaison officer on a routine check of the school’s grounds.

In a statement released to GoLocalWorcester, Worcester Public Schools Safety Liaison Robert Pezzella said, “This morning...at Worcester Technical High School, a police liaison officer was making her daily rounds outside the school building. Upon entering an abandoned building on the property which is owned by the city ,she discovered a deceased body. NEW: Reports of Pressure Cooker Bomb Left at Gas Station on Grafton Street

Traffic on Grafton Street in Worcester has been blocked off and Worcester Police and Massachusetts State Police have cleared out and surrounded a gas station. Initial reports have indicated that a pressure cooker bomb was dropped off at the gas station and abandoned there.

The gas station is located at 263 Grafton Street. 

Sources have confirmed that a pressure cooker was left there and, according to multiple sources, the area has been evacuated and the bomb squad is there.

24-Year-Old Woman Killed in Tragic Accident at Kelley Square Identified

One of the saddest stories of 2015, was the tragic accident at Kelley Square:

"Late Thursday evening, a 24-year-old woman was killed in Kelley Square when she was pinned down by the rear wheels of a tractor trailer. The victim of the accident has been identified as Sarah Ewing of Hudson.

Ewing was freed from the wheels of the truck and transported to a hospital. She was in critical condition at the scene of the accident and was pronounced dead at the hospital."  READ THE FULL STORY HERE

Principal Cancels School for Blizzard Juno with Hilarious Video
