Monday, August 08, 2016
The women told police they were on a porch of a second floor apartment when a gunshot rang out and struck them. The 52-year-old female was hit in the lower leg; the bullet then travelled through the leg and grazed the back of the 42-year-old.
Worcester EMS arrived and treated the victim for her leg injury. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The second woman received a superficial injury and declined medical treatment at the scene. The 52-year-old is expected to make a full recovery.
WPD investigators and members of the Crime Scene Unit arrived at the scene. Investigators spoke with witnesses while the crime scene unit processed evidence discovered outside of the apartment building.
The preliminary investigation indicates that there were several women located in the front porch of a second floor apartment when several shots rang out. One bullet pierced the wall to the second floor porch and struck the victim in the leg. The bullet then grazed the back of the second female victim causing a minor injury. It is believed at this time that the women were not the intended target of the shooting.
