5-Year-Old Girl & Grandmother in Critical Condition After Pedestrian Accident UPDATED

A Worcester women, 33, has been charged with domestic assault and battery after running down a 5-year-old girl and her 54-year-old grandmother pedestrians with her Ford Explorer as the woman was chasing after her ex-boyfriend. The crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon right outside St. Vincent Hospital.

The girl and her grandmother are suffering multiple injuries remain in critical condition. 

The woman driving the Ford Explorer suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. She was then released and transported to police headquarters for processing. She will be arranged on Thursday. 

The Incident 

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the 33-year-old female was operating a green Ford Explorer and was chasing a 2006 Chevrolet Pick-up truck operated by a 42-year-old male, who was later revealed to be the ex. boyfriend of the female. 

The female operator struck the back of the male's truck while turning from Foster Street to Major Taylor Blvd. She lost control of her vehicle and struck he 5-year-old girl and her grandmother on the sidewalk outside of St. Vincent Hospital. 

She has also been charged with two counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Serious Bodily Injury)(weapon is the MV), Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Child Under the Age of 14, Reckless Operation of a MV and Malicious Destruction of Property.

Because the female driver who was trying to chase after and ram her boyfriends car when the accident occured has been charged with Domestic Assault and Battery, her name will not be released due to the current domestic laws that prohibit publication.

Update Information from Worcester Police

The preliminary investigation indicates that just prior to the crash, a Worcester police officer meet with a man in the lobby of Worcester Police Headquarter who was having a domestic problem with his ex-girlfriend. The man had called police stating that he was driving his pick-up truck towards the police station and wanted to speak with a police officer. The male also stated that his ex-girlfriend was following him and trying to hit his truck. The responding officer that was dispatched to meet with the male was subsequently dispatched to the Major Taylor Blvd for the pedestrian accident that involved the ex-girlfriend.

The vehicle then went through a fence and came to a final rest after crashing into an iron fence which belonged to St. Vincent's Hospital. 

Both the explorer and the truck were towed from the scene and impounded by police for mechanical inspection.
