GoLocal reviewed the data provided by the research group at Walk Score, who "believes that walkable neighborhoods with access to public transit, shorter commutes, and proximity to the people and places you love are the key to a happier, healthier and more sustainable lifestyle."

For Massachusetts cities, the numbers are mixed. Boston, known for its walkability was in the top three of the state's ranking, but did not make the top 10 nationally. The greater the walkability, the higher the real estate for commercial space, commercial rents and residential values.
In contrast, the city of Worcester did not make the top 20 walkable cities and town in Massachusetts. In fact, among cities with populations over 100,000, Worcester is the least-walkable.
