Everything You Need to Know About the Worcester Election

Tuesday, November 03, 2015

This year's Worcester municipal election is now here. The much anticipated race between incumbent Mayor Joe Petty - the close ally of Congressman Jim McGovern (D-2D) and two opponents.

Petty is being challenged by City Councilman Michael Gaffney and Bill Coleman.

In addition, the City Council is has a number of potential highly competitive races.

The Guide

GoLocal has built a guide for where and when to vote. In addition, GoLocal has identified what to do if you see voter fraud - who to contact.

Everything You Need to Know About the Worcester Election - 2015

Here is the guide to getting to the polls and where to vote.

Take a look at the history of Worcester Mayors and where they go after the office.

Slug Feast Turned Calm Fest

This year’s Worcester city election started off rough and tumble, but seems to have lost a little steam over the past few weeks.

The race for Mayor looked to be a donnybrook, but the heavyweight bout between Mayor Joe Petty and Michael Gaffney and Bill Coleman has calmed.

Gaffney seems to be running for re-election to the City Council more than running for Mayor. No press releases, no updates to his website - very quiet in the final weeks.

Not the Stepping Stone Job

Joe Petty is Worcester’s 72nd Mayor and is the past few decades, only Tim Murray has gone on to “higher office.” Mayors don’t wear well in the Commonwealth as no recent Boston, Worcester or Springfield Mayor has gone on to any political fame or fortune.

The most notable Mayors include former Lt. Governor and now Chamber boss Tim Murray, WTAG host Jordan Levy, and the first female mayor Sara Robertson (1982-1983).
