Worcester Man Caught Vandalizing World War II Memorial
Tuesday, July 12, 2016
The Worcester Police Officer approached Wahlers and ordered him to cease his action and to step away from the memorial. He attempted to walk away from the officer. Then, when questioned by the officer, Wahlers claimed that a friend told him to take the copper from the monument.
The monument has six copper grounding wires installed. The copper is for the future installment of some metal railings. Wahlers damaged the monument by altering the copper tubing which will need to be replaced.
Wahlers was placed under arrest and charged with Malicious Destruction of Property over the Value of $250.00 and Vandalizing or Removing Graves or Monuments.
Wahlers was arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
