The Incident
On Tuesday, May 2, members of the Worcester police vice squad were conducting surveillance in the Seymour Street and Ward Street area in an effort to end street level drug dealing that is known to take place in the area.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., a man and woman were seen standing at the intersection of Seymour and Ward Streets. The woman was looking in all directions while making several calls on her cellphone. The undercover officers became suspicious of her behavior.
The woman, later identified as Jennifer Pierce, 37, of 23 Vernon Street, Worcester, began to walk towards Perry Avenue along with the unidentified man. The undercover officers proceeded to follow her. Pierce was seen walking in the middle of the road waving down a motorist. The motorist stopped in the travel lane with Pierce approaching the driver’s window. The two spoke for approximately 30 seconds and then the car drove off. No drug transaction was seen.
At approximately 12:05 p.m., the officers saw a Red Saturn pull to the side of the road on Perry Avenue. Pierce ran across the street and entered the passenger seat. The Saturn drove off. Other vice officers were positioned nearby were in an unmarked car and began to follow the Saturn. The suspect car drove around in the block for a short while and then dropped Pierce off at Sterling Street and Euclid Avenue.
Pierce began to walk away. At this time two undercover officers approached her. As the officers closed in Pierce discarded a small piece of tinfoil to the ground. One officer picked up the tinfoil and discovered that it contained crack cocaine.
After confirming that Pierce was in possession of narcotics the officer that were following the Saturn now had probable cause to signal the car to stop. The car was stopped on Woodford Street. Officers approached the car and identified Charles Davis, 21, of 83 Fayston Street, Boston, as the driver. Officers discovered that Davis was holding two small baggies that contained crack cocaine.
A search of Davis discovered $50.00 and two cellphones. The money and drugs were seized as evidence.
