The Maureen Binienda era has begun. The Worcester School Board selected Binienda by a unanimous vote picking her over three other candidates.
Binienda was selected over acting Spuperintendent Marco Rodrigues, Dr. Karrie Allen and Dr. Kerry Mulcahy.
Binienda has been at South High School since 1978 and serves as principal. In 2013, she was named "Woman of the Year in Central Massachusetts" by GoLocalWorcester.
Her support was widespread including the creation of an online petition that generated nearly 700 signatures. Here is what the petition wrote on Change.org petition
The citizens of Worcester and our public schools deserve to be lead by a person with a proven track record and experience; by a person who really knows and loves the City of Worcester; by a person who is more concerned with REAL results and educational opportunities for all and not about statistical information; a person who will listen fairly to all the citizens of Worcester and not just a select few. We strongly urge the Worcester School Committee to pursue the hiring of Maureen Binienda, principal of South High School, as our new Superintendent of Schools.
