Bronx Man Arrested for Trafficking Heroin in Worcester
Thursday, June 22, 2017
Waldemar Grullon-Rojas, 22, was charged with Trafficking in Heroin, 18-36 grams, and Driving without a License.
The Incident
On June 20, at about 4:30 p.m., Worcester Police vice squad officers received information that a suspicious item left in the woods near Gage St. Police responded to the area and located the cigar box, which contained about 50 knotted bags of heroin with a street value of about $2000.
In order to avoid detection, some drug dealers leave drugs in specific public locations, and tell their buyers where to find the drugs. This avoids a hand-to-hand transaction that might attract the attention of area residents and the police. Police placed the drugs back in the location from which they were found, and took up surveillance of the area to see if anyone came to pick up the heroin.
Almost immediately after officers set up surveillance, they saw a white Chevy Cruz slowly circling around the area, with the operator looking around in all directions. The driver, later identified as Grullon-Rojas parked his car near the entrance to the woods, looked around again, and began to slowly walk toward the location of the drugs. There were no other cars in the area, and no one on foot.
Grullon-Rojas picked up the package and walked back to his car. At this point, officers walked toward him and he dropped the package. They saw four identical cigar boxes in his car, all of which were empty, and several corner-baggies. A license check of Grullon-Rojas revealed that he did not have an active driver’s license. Grullon-Rojas was placed under arrest.
