Casino Repeal Shot Down By Massachusetts Voters
Tuesday, November 04, 2014
The current law allows for three regional resort casinos as well as one slots parlor. Three projects in the state have already been approved and will move forward: a slots parlor, which is already under construction in Plainville, and full-scale casinos planned by MGM Resorts in Springfield and Wynn Resorts in Everett.
Opponents of the repeal said that the potential for thousands of jobs in the state, coupled with economic development opportunities and enhanced tax revenue were all reasons to support casinos.
Supporters of the repeal cited casinos as harbingers of crime, gambling addiction, and other social ills, and had serious doubts about the economic advantages of the casinos in the states.
The Associated Press called the race around 10:15 PM.
