A Conversation with Lynette Paczkowski
SW: We are introducing some of the younger generation who is starting to or is making their mark on the Central MA community. What career have you chosen to move forward in?
LP: I am a trial attorney with Bowditch & Dewey, LLP. I joined B&D in 2008 after working at an insurance defense firm here in Worcester and a boutique trial firm in Framingham. I manage cases from inception to trial or settlement. This includes advising business leaders on the benefits and risks of a lawsuit and the strengths and weaknesses of their claims or defenses; appearing in both Federal and State Courts; arguing dispositive and pre-trial motions; conducting bench and jury trials; and representing clients in forums other than court, such as mediations and arbitrations. My practice focuses on business disputes, construction disputes, and defense of personal injury and property damage claims.
SW: What is the best thing about your job?
LP: Every day brings something different, but with the same goal in mind. Being a trial attorney and managing cases from inception to resolution means that sometimes you are in your office, analyzing statutes and case law, while other times you are out taking and defending depositions, conducting site inspections, arguing motions, participating in mediations, and the list goes on. The whole time, though, you are working towards achieving the best possible outcome for your client.
SW: Can you describe a typical day in your life?
LP: There are no typical days in litigation!
SW: What is your dream job?
LP: I like to think I have it now–doing great work for great clients, surrounded by a team of great people.
SW: What is your favorite piece of technology?
LP: The DVR–I’m never at a loss for something to watch!
SW: What is on your iTunes?
LP: Christmas tunes, Ludacris, and everything in between. Lately, there’s been a lot of Christina Perri and Muse.
SW: What is your favorite social networking site?
LP: Instagram.
SW: What do you do away from your career?
LP: I’m very active with the Worcester County Bar Association and the Young Professional Women’s Association. You can also find me on the softball field or the golf course.
SW: What are you involved with on the Community Legal Aid Access to Justice Campaign Leadership Committee?
LP: Community Legal Aid provides pro bono legal services to low-income and elderly residents of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, and Worcester Counties. The economic downturn has severely impacted the organization and its funding, so the Access to Justice Campaign was created. The Campaign is an annual community initiative led by attorneys in Worcester County to raise funds for and encourage charitable giving to Community Legal Aid.
SW: Who is the biggest influence in your life?
LP: One of my high school English teachers. He’s always believed in me and encouraged me, and so many of his “Quotes of the Day” have stuck with me all these years later.
SW: What is a fun fact few people know about you?
LP: I’ve acted onstage at Shakespeare’s Globe Theater in London.
SW: Your favorite expression?
LP: Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
SW: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
LP: Right here, with a thriving practice, the continued blessings of amazing friends and family, and a mentoring role with the next generation of up and comers!
